History comes alive at the Lincoln Memorial Shrine’s 50th Open House from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, in the Shrine and Smiley Park. The annual event provides the perfect opportunity to commemorate Abraham Lincoln and the Civil War.

Festivities begin at 10 a.m. with the Lincoln Pilgrimage parade led by reenactors from the Sons of Union Veterans, Brooklyn Naval Yard, and 7th Michigan Volunteer Cavalry. Commencing at Redlands High School, the procession will move down Citrus Avenue to Eureka Street and conclude at the Lincoln Shrine, where a brief program and flag raising ceremony will take place. Hosted by the Gray Arrow District of the Boy Scouts of America, the Lincoln Pilgrimage has taken place in Redlands since 1940.

The celebration continues with the Open House, where visitors will be treated to live music, family activities, a display by the Inland Empire LEGO User Group, and dozens of Civil War re-enactors. Living history demonstrations by the 1st Pennsylvania Light Artillery, the 7th Michigan Volunteer Cavalry and Camp Carleton Band will occur throughout the day and President Lincoln presenter Robert Broski will be joined by members of the 97th US Colored Troops to commemorate the 160th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation.

This event is free and open to the public. The Lincoln Memorial Shrine is the only museum and research center in the West focusing solely on Lincoln and the American Civil War. The museum is located at 125 W. Vine St. in Redlands. For further information, please call (909) 798-7632.
