Finding Power

Experience the raw energy, emotional depth, and sheer brilliance of classical music in Finding Power—an electrifying evening led by celebrated guest conductor Donato Cabrera. This bold program explores how composers across generations channeled their inner fire into unforgettable works of art. The night begins with Beethoven’s stormy Coriolan Overture, a gripping portrait of conflict and inner turmoil. Inspired by a tragic Roman general, this music surges with Beethoven’s trademark intensity—dramatic contrasts, fierce determination, and a final, haunting resolution. It’s a thrilling curtain-raiser that grabs you from the first note. Next, violinist Luchi Jiang, winner of the University of Redlands Concerto Competition, takes center stage in Mendelssohn’s beloved Violin Concerto in E minor. Full of elegance and virtuosic brilliance, this concerto remains one of the most popular in the repertoire for good reason: from its heartfelt opening to its sparkling finale, it’s a perfect showcase of lyricism, agility, and emotional power. The program concludes with Schubert’s Symphony No. 2, a youthful burst of creativity from a composer just coming into his voice. Balancing Haydn-inspired clarity with Schubert’s gift for melody, this symphony radiates energy, confidence, and a joy that feels as fresh today as it did two centuries ago. Finding Power celebrates not just the strength of sound—but the strength of spirit. Don’t miss this dynamic concert featuring an award-winning young soloist, three masterful works, and the commanding presence of Donato Cabrera on the podium.
