The Inland Empire Chapter of the amateur radio PAPA System will be hosting its first monthly breakfast and testing session at 9AM on Saturday, August 13, 2022, at the Denny’s Restaurant, 110 W. Redlands Blvd, Redlands, CA. The testing portion of the meeting will begin at 8AM. Attendees can take the amateur radio test for a Technician license or the upgrade tests for General or Extra certification.

A portable amateur radio will be raffled off to those passing their Technician tests. Cost for the testing is $15 (cash or check only). There will also be a raffle for the breakfast attendees. The winner can pick between a AnyTone analog/DMR amateur portable radio, a Motorola P25/analog amateur portable radio, a Bioenno solar panel and LiFePO4 battery, a ham gift card or a ham “go box.” Tickets are $20 each. The proceeds will go toward maintaining and enhancing the repeater system. RSVP’s are greatly appreciated for both testing and breakfast attendance.

The meeting is open to anyone interested in amateur radio and is intended to promote ham radio usage for personal, recreational and emergency preparedness purposes. You do not need to be a member of the PAPA System to attend. The meeting is scheduled to be held the second Saturday of each month.

The PAPA System is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. It is a member-supported wide-area amateur radio network of more than 60 analog FM, D-Star, DMR and P25 repeaters. As such, it is Southern California’s largest amateur radio repeater system providing coverage from the Mexican border to north of Santa Barbara and Ridgecrest and from Catalina Island to Las Vegas and the Arizona border.

The PAPA System has monthly breakfast/luncheon meetings in Los Angeles, Orange, San Diego, Riverside and San Bernardino counties. In addition, the System holds multiple “Nets” throughout the week on a variety of topics including technical ham issues, antennas, outdoor activities, issues for new “hams,” boating and current events. More information about the PAPA System can be found online here.
