Join the A.K. Smiley Public Library on Saturday, Nov. 1, for a celebration of Dia de los Muertos, a holiday celebrating deceased loved ones.
The free celebration will take place with family activities beginning at 10 a.m. through 1 p.m. in Smiley Park and a viewing of ofrendas and artwork, children’s story time and a talk from artist Nancy Nieto at The Contemporary Club, 173 S. Eureka St.
A full list of times and activities is included below.
10 a.m.-1 p.m.: Smiley Park:
- Family activities including face painting and crafts
- Teen Art Contest viewing in the library’s Assembly Room
- Free book for kids (while supplies last)
- 11 a.m.-1 p.m.: FREE lunch provided by Tacos Che and More and Nichos Ice Cream (while supplies last)
- 11 a.m.-11:45 a.m. Vocal and guitar music by Ana Gonzalez de Jorgenson
- 11:45 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Performance by Ballet Folklorico Angeles Especiales
- 12:30 p.m. Children’s Catrina/Calavera costume contest
10 a.m.-1 p.m. Contemporary Club:
- 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Public viewings of ofrendas, and Dia de los Muertos art display, courtesy of the Mexican Consulate
- 10 a.m.-10:30 a.m. Children’s story time
- 10:40 a.m.-11 a.m. Art talk from artist Nancy Nieto, who will discuss her artwork “El Arbol de la Vida”
