A Caribbean Creole Fusion Cuisine Experience that will Impact Your Palate Forever
Each dish was perfectly seasoned with a little bite. Now, you all know I don’t like spicy food, and this was really well done…a perfect balance of spice without taking away from the flavor. We learned that you can order each dish mild, medium and SPICY! We were served the mild version. An added bonus was the “Pickelese” which is like Chow Chow. Those of us from the South know Chow Chow. Dhat Islands Pickelese is a spicy relish made with carrots, cabbage and a special pepper from Island. JR LOVED it!!
“Dhat Island” is the owner’s version of the South and Caribbean. Angela is from the South and Carlo from the Caribbean…a perfect match for a wonderfully pared couple. We were served the most fabulous Bourbon Chicken which was grilled fresh with a delicious bourbon dipping sauce served on a generous bed of red beans & rice. Next, the Dhat Island Chicken, Oxtail Stew, Curried Goat, Plantains, and Creole Pasta Salad served room temperature with chicken. This was my very first experience of Oxtail and Curried Goat which was heavenly. The Oxtail was tender like a short rib and the Curried goat was perfectly spiced and the meat tender. This was JR’s favorite. He said, “This is the kind of dish I will crave and need to have.” Dessert was homemade Citrus Pound Cake and Caribbean Cake. DELICIOUS!!!!
Dhat Island doesn’t have their beer and wine license yet, so bring in your own bottle of wine/beer. Dhat Island servers will open and serve your wine/beer in their own chilled glasses. All entrees are served with a choice of red beans & rice or black beans sauce with white rice & mouth watering sweet or green plantains. The green plantains were my favorite!! They are open for dinner Friday and Saturday 6pm- 10pm. Friday nights are the best…steel drum band. Call for reservations! Tuesday through Saturday they are open for Take Out. Closed Sunday and Monday.
You MUST try this place!! Tell them “Martha sent you” and Angela will make you complimentary fried okra fritters or a special plantain appetizer. This is a one of a kind family run business and Redlands is so lucky to have them. Their son Fabrice is a real gem!! Write to me and tell me how you LOVED your experience here.
