  • Debbie - Zamba Gold Class

My name is Debbie Neal and I am in Katherine “Kat” Davis Zumba Gold Class. It’s a Zumba class for seniors. I had a seizure last June at work, and they had to rush me to the Hospital. Long story short. Brain Tumor…Astrocytoma Grade 2…malignant… Had “Toby” removed, (that’s right I named it, because life is short so may as well have some fun), anyway, I was home for 3 months and gained a whole lot of weight. Had nothing to do but eat….(God, I love food), anyway, when I went back to work in Sept of 09’ I was still consuming various amounts of food. I was on the “see food diet”…you know that one I’m sure… Went for my first MRI and it was clear, went back this July and it was still clear. See, a grade 2 Astrocytoma is usually prevalent in young adults, not old women. Fortunately I’m young at heart….so, I thought before I went for my MRI this time I was going to loose weight. That’s when I decided to join Weight Watchers and Zumba…. When I told my Dr. (I go to The City of Hope) that I was taking Zumba, he said to tell my instructor “THANK YOU and to give her a big hug” . When I asked him if I could do Zumba he gave me the thumbs up because he explained that exercise is extremely good for the brain. It gets all those endorphins going and also helps any numerous other malfunctions we get as we get older. I told him that “Kat” worked our booty’s off.

I don’t think I’ve been in this good of shape since the Roller Derby Days. Yep, that’s right, I used to roller skate at the Olympic auditorium from 1969 to 1979…could be that’s where I got “Toby”.

If you like to dance, exercise, are concerned about your weight, or just want to have fun and are of the Grey haired set, then trust me, you will absolutely love Zumba. You might not understand the words, but then who needs to. All you have to do is understand “music”, and shake what your mama gave you!

We are all going to miss Kat when she leaves us, but who knows, maybe she will pop in from time to time to lead us in a class….sure hope so! THANK YOU, KAT for helping me, or should I say US!!

So for all of us......Don't be depressed, and don't ever give up, EXERCISE!!!

  • HEATHER - CAMP MEASUREMENTS

Heather lost 5lbs in the 4 weeks of camp and a total of 9inches overall, including 2.5 inches around her waist and an 1 3/4 around the hips..... she watched what she ate, logged her food intake and workouts every single day. She got herself a good jump start to a fitter and healthier Heather...... CONGRATULATIONS HEATHER!

Heather writes:

Before camp I felt stuck in a rut. I was unhappy with my body and I felt unhealthy and tired all the time. I had started working out at home, but the workouts just felt monotonous and boring. That's when I met Kat. She told me about her bootcamp and I was super excited to join. Waking up at 5:30 every morning was definitely a struggle at first, but well worth it. No two days were alike. Everyday was something new and I was never bored. Kat consistently challenged and motivated us to be our best. I love the way I feel, the way I look, and the new muscles I see developing. I would recommend bootcamp to everyone! Whether you are just starting out, a fitness pro, or somewhere in between, you will love this bootcamp! Kat pushes each individual at their own fitness level, so that we all see the best results possible.

We all face challenges everyday, but life is too short to make excuses. We have to take control of our lives and our health and make ourselves a priority. I am so happy that I met Kat, and even happier that I made the decision to sign up for bootcamp. I am excited to see the continuous changes in my body and my health. Thank you so much, Kat! Camp was amazing!!! :) ~Heather~

What's not mentioned is that Heather has a condition that most of us would have used as an excuse not to exercise. Heather did not and she did marvelous and got results. NO EXCUSES!

Heather's 4 weeks transformation results:

  • Lost 8 lbs.
  • Lost 2% body fat
  • Lost 5.5 inches overall

One of my Zumba Gold ladies, said to me "'my doctor says 'Thank You' and she explained...she has brain cancer and since she's been coming to my classes she is doing better and doc said it added 6 more months to her life and not to ever stop doing what she is doing. I've had other docs thank me and say things like "you saved my patient's life" Thank you Lord for using me!

I was really scared to try this at first. I had my daughter 6 years ago and couldn't keep calling it baby fat. I wanted to start getting active but didn't know where to start and couldn't hold myself accountable to doing it. Kat and her bootcamp were exactly what i needed. Now i want to come home and walk or ride bikes with my family and just stay active all the time.

Every day it is something new and exciting. It's tough while we are doing it, but i always come home with a smile on my face. I was surprised to see the results after the first bootcamp so i signed up for another! LOVE IT!!

Not to be a cliche, but there's nothing like getting engaged to make a girl jump start her exercise routine! Since finishing school a few years back, I'd gotten out of a regular exercise habit. A friend and housemate of mine did bootcamp all last year and was starting up again this January. I decided it was finally time to commit to something and am now in my second session of bootcamp!
There are mornings when I question my decision to be up that early, but I ALWAYS leave invigorated and inspired. Kat's ability to create variety and cater to ALL fitness levels is what makes each morning fun and satisfying. Although I still have a long way to go to reach my fitness goals, I feel so much better everyday than I did before. My blood pressure has dropped, as have a few pounds and even a few inches! I'm excited to be a part of this group and am looking forward to daily improvements in my overall health!

The best workout ever! I have tried all types of cardio and fitness classes, but nothing compares to Kat's camp. Every day is something different, fun, and challenging. This is the best way to start your day. I feel great physically, am less stressed out during the day and sleep so much better. I do this to feel good and be strong for myself and my family. WARNING: If you try it, you may like it so much you'll keep coming back!!!

I have tried just about every form of workout available, from home DVD's to going to the gym. I even did it on the Wii! I can honestly say nothing compares to Redlands Adventure Boot Camp. Bootcamp is a unique program, designed to keep you motivated and eager for more. I did it for one month at first, and then tried to keep active on my own. Every month that passed I thought about signing up again because I just wasn't satisfied with anything else. Now I'm back, and I love it. It even gets me out of bed at 5:00 am! Kat's workout's are always different, keeping you from ever getting bored with routine. They are complete too, working every area of the body. And the best part is, you're doing it with a group of ordinary women who are all trying to obtain the same goals. The more you get to know the people in your class, the better it gets. You have encouragement and accountability, not to mention a few laughs a long the way. I am so grateful for the Redlands Adventure Bootcamp program and could never stop saying enough great things about it. I guarantee you won't like it...you'll LOVE it!!

A Boot Camp Makeover at 50!

I turned 50 years old early this year. I was out of shape, and heavier than I have ever been in my life. I had moved from the “overweight” classification to the “obese” category—and I didn’t like that word applied to me! It was time to make a change and get in shape and lose some weight.

So, with a co-worker’s urging, I decided to try Kat’s Redlands Adventure Boot Camp. (I honestly thought we were crazy for signing up for a 5:30 am camp, but my friend was going to do it, so I said I would too!) That first week we ached all over—in places I didn’t even know existed! But, we kept at it, and for me, I think this was the best thing I have ever done for myself. I feel energized and alive and feel really good about the progress I have made.

Since February, I have completed 3 boot camp sessions and 3 extreme weeks and am starting on the 4th! In that time I have lost 21 pounds and 15 ½ inches. Of course, I am eating nutritiously and not going out for ice cream anymore, but the exercise (especially the weight training) is what has made the biggest difference. Kat is a wonderful trainer/motivator/drill sergeant! She gets us going, pushing each one of us to our limits (i.e. you don’t go to boot camp to slack!) But, boot camp is fun—no two days are alike, and the camaraderie with the other campers just adds to the experience. I love boot camp
