2009 BEST MOTHER WINNER CHAR GREENE ENJOYS PAMPERING FROM LOCAL REDLANDS BUSINESSES

REDLANDS—(July 2009) --- The winner of the annual Redlands BEST Mother contest wins big with gifts, pampering and a stay at the Morey Mansion. The contest was held from April 1 through May 8, 2009 where entrants wrote letters explaining why their mothers’ deserved to be pampered. Letters were selected by a CSUSB academic committee and the contest was made possible by What’s Happening in Redlands and Redlands PR, with over 200 entries received.

The winning letter, submitted by Charity, one of three kids of Char Greene, described her mother as motivational, loving and always there for support. Beating the odds and being married for 35 years, Char and her husband showed their kids that “life is never perfect, but if you keep working toward your goals, you can achieve anything you set your mind to.” A good mom should lead by example and show her kids constant love and support. Charity finishes by saying her mom raised three successful children and that people always comment on how close their family is. To begin her pampering, Char enjoyed a well deserved relaxing stay at the Morey Mansion, an 1890 historic home in Redlands which was once characterized as “America’s Favorite Victorian.” Now being run as an upscale inn, it is a favored place to spend a night, or two. With themed rooms, a parlor, pool table, garden and pool, the Morey Mansion presented many options of entertainment to choose from. Char and her husband settled into the beautiful Canyon Suite - the same room Rita Coolidge stayed in the night before. Owner Janet Cosgrove was the perfect host. “My husband and I had a great time. If you get a chance to stay there, do,” says Greene. Known for having some of the finest cuisine in the Inland Empire, the Greene’s also enjoyed a wonderful Mediterranean seafood dinner at Caprice Café in downtown Redlands. Owner Nabil Ayoub came out to meet the winning mother while they were dinning. Of Caprice, “the food melts in your mouth and the service is wonderful,” Greene compliments. Caprice opened its doors in downtown Redlands in 1988. Since then, the cafe has continually evolved, and now stands as a fine dining restaurant offering elegant indoor and patio seating. This casual chic restaurant can accommodate parties of up to 40 people with advance notification in an indoor or patio setting and serves only the freshest ingredients available. They also offer all organic meats and fresh wild seafood. The pampering continued as Char also received a $300 Laser Hair removal by Rejuvenate in Redlands. Rejuvenate’s expert physicians help their clients feel younger with no pain, no surgery and no recovery time. Blue Mud Yoga presented Char with a private relaxation session and Olive Market offered Char with a gift certificate for brunch, which Char says has “wonderful food and was very relaxing to sit outside with the paper.”

To finish off Char’s pampering, she was also given flowers from the Bloom Room in Redlands. Christina at the Bloom Room has been putting her unique twist on florals for over 20 years. She has designed for Santa Claus Inc's Christmas Tree Lane and San Bernardino Assistance League's Headdress Ball.

Char felt completely pampered after the weekend’s activities and thanked everyone for a weekend she won’t forget for a long time. I have to thank my daughter, Charity, for entering the Best Mom contest.

I went to the Morey Mansion this past weekend and had wonderful time. The mansion is beautiful and Janet is wonderful. My husband and I had a great time. If you get a chance to stay there, do.

We had dinner at Caprice. It was fabulous. The food melts in your mouth and the service is wonderful.

We had breakfast at the Olive Market. Wonderful food. Very relaxing, sitting outside with the paper. Very nice.

Also want to thank Deborah and Margarita for being so wonderful to me. It was a perfect weekend and can’t wait to enjoy the rest of it.

Winning Letter

My mother, Char Greene, is the best mom in the world and totally deserves to be pampered. She is, and always has been there for my brother, sister, and I whenever we needed her. Her and my dad married when they were very young but have beaten the odds and will be celebrating their 35th anniversary this year. Their example has always shown us that while life is never perfect, and things don’t always turn out the way you plan, if you keep working towards your goals you can achieve anything you set your mind to. This motivation and the constant confidence and pride she shows for us has made us who we are today. I have been married for 14 years and both my sister and I continue to pass the motivation and confidence she has shown for us down to our children. My brother is currently serving in the Army and her love and support has been a huge motivator for him as well. My mom has always taught us that family comes first and people always comment on what a close family we have. I believe that in order to be a good mom you have to lead by example and show your children constant love and support. My mom has never failed to do this she has raised three successful children because of that. We love her very much and would be so grateful if you would choose her to be pampered. THANK YOU!!
