About Mill Creek Cattle Company - Mentone

  • 1874 Mentone Blvd.

Mill Creek Cattle Company is as much a destination as it is a truly great dining value. Located in the heart of Mentone, on the South-East corner of Mentone Blvd and Tourmaline Ave. it is well worth the short drive from just about anywhere in the Inland Empire.

Mill Creek Cattle Company serves up old style western atmosphere unlike just about any other restaurant in Southern California. Much more than just some old paint and rusting junk that so many think makes a Western Restaurant, Western. Mill Creek is the ol' west come to life; it is like taking a few giant steps back in time to the actual ol' west itself. This is the perfect restaurant for families with kids (of all ages).

As you enter Mill Creek you walk past the saddles, bridals, branding irons, etc. into the wild west of Cattle-Drives and days gone by… and you just know to expect a dining experience like nothing else. Real slow smoked BBQ Ribs, Meats and Steaks. You look around at all the artifacts, guns, photos and Ol’ West lifestyle literally nailed on the walls, the ceilings, etc… and you just know this restaurant is dedicated to serving up some serious ranch style grub.

YES; You are in for a dining experience to be remembered. One you are going to want to come back for again, and again, because Mill Creek is like an ol’ pair of boots... homey, warm, comfortable, and just plain real!

It all begins with Mill Creek’s old western town facade on the outside. It is hard to drive by and miss seeing the wooden water tower, ect… and upon entering you will find the inside is just as unique as the outside.

Kick a## BBQ! During my wife's pregnancy we we're doing BBQ tours around the I.E.
Quality, price and service is why we continue to return to the Redlands drive thru location. The 4 person family deal for under $20 amazes me how they give away that much BBQ for the price. The Mentone location has larger more elaborate menu and ambiance if you need that when you eat prices and portions are more but also very good quality.

I have been here four times now and absolutely love this place. As I live in Palm Springs, I think of it as the "anti-Palm Springs" establishment for me. A more rough and hometown decor, big food, home-cooked dishes, cheap drinks and friendly wait staff. The word pompous doesn't come to mind whatsoever. The food is very reasonably priced. As a Mid West guy, this place makes me feel right at home. The waitresses generally call me "hon" or "darlin" and are damned attentive. Each time I have returned I have taken a different group of people and they all have raved about the uniqueness of this place and the quality of the experience, and it is an experience to be sure.

My last visit was last weekend for my birthday and although it was a Sunday evening and the bar closed, the owner gave us a tour. Little touches of service like that are why I come back! When the *massive* bar/dance/stage area is open - it's a riot. Lots of fun!

If you live in the desert and find yourself paying $60 for a $10 cut of beef, dealing with martinis that are 0.5oz with a lemon peel and a $15 tag, etc.; take a break from the b.s. and get here. It just warms the soul.

If you're going to Mill Creek, this is the place to go. The newer one on Orange Tree Lane in Redlands is OK, but the original is by far the better choice. Yes, it's in Mentone. Where is this? If you've ever driven the back way to Big Bear via SR 38, you have passed this place. Given the average speed of traffic in this area, however, it isn't difficult to miss Mill Creek. By the time you've seen it you've probably driven too far past to pull in. Do yourself a big favor, turn around, and find a parking space and go in.

Much is said about the decor. Let's just say it's eclectic - that term covers a wide range of interior design themes, and that is what you will find once inside - a wide range of themes. I usually prefer the semi-outdoor large room, but in many cases am quite comfortable in the lounge. The dance hall is a newer improvement, and I'll leave it for others to rate.

If you like BBQ, good, quality service, and an upbeat crowd, this is your place. Servings are large, service is fast enough, and you can almost always stay at your own pace - something that is fast becoming a lost pleasure in so many local eateries where the "cattle call" of moving diners in and out so fast you hardly have a chance to catch your breath - let alone actually enjoy your experience.

My favorite time to visit is on a cold evening when they have a fire burning in the lounge dining area. It just doesn't get much better than this.

I've had almost every dish on the menu, but the bbq pork sandwich, ribs & steak are my favorite. Their soup and salads are also large and always a good bet, too. Chili is quite good, but it's the meat that takes center stage here.

I've found this is an excellent place to take someone from outside the IE. They are suitably impressed, and leave with an appreciation that there is a semblance of "culture" east of SR 57.

In summary, an outstanding choice anytime you're really hungry, want a tasty lunch, or just want to spend some quality time with a certain someone with a fire roaring just behind you.
